Kinja'd!!!

Because I’m going to look at this tomorrow (today?).

Its a 1996 with 112,000 miles, V6, 5 speed and 4x4.

They’re asking $3500.

It seems too good to be true.

Sounds to good to be true. Vicali is the guy to talk to re: frame rust

Thanks!

Yeah. Ive seen worse trucks selling for a bunch more. I’m a bit skittish.

Finding Crustys replacement is proving difficult.

Do you live in the rust belt?

Yeah either it's rusted the fuck out or a great deal. Might as well go check it out.

I had a 98 Taco v6 5spd and it was a killer truck. Never let me down once. From 166k to 220k miles, the only thing it needed was front wheel bearings and regular maintenance. The wheel bearings being worn was due to the 33" Toyo MT tires and semi-regular off-roading though.

It’s claimed to be a southern truck. With 112k on the clock how bad could it be? It just sucks that it’s a 2 hour drive to find out.

First gen tacomas had a huge frame rust campaign - but it’s over. So if the truck was inspected and was under coated or had a new frame replacement as part of that campaign it has a 15yr coverage.

Toyota did a lot of buyback on first gens as well- many people got 125% of blue book and put it towards a 2nd gen. There are some nasty pics out there;

I don’t know the details, but Toyota replaced a LOT of these frames under a recall, and still do. Try calling a Toyota dealer.

I got a half hour from Rockford and the guy texted me that it was gone.

Waste of a beautiful morning.

The dealer is a good idea though. Im pretty narrowed down to a Taco or Ranger.

D’oh!!!

Hard to go wrong with one of those. I’ve been trying to find an S-10 for rallycross, but they’re all either rusted to hell, too expensive, or both.
